About this studio
USA Dance of North Central New Mexico hosts social dances on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month at the Albuquerque Square Dance Center, 4915 Hawkins St NE. From January through May and September through December, dances run 3–5 p.m.; from June through August they shift to 6:30–8:30 p.m. Every dance is preceded by free lessons: a line dance class, a beginner lesson, and an intermediate/advanced lesson, all taught by professional dance teachers from Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
The DJ mix spans ballroom styles (waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, tango), Latin (cha cha, rumba, samba, bolero), swing, Argentine tango, West Coast Swing, Country-Western, Night Club Two-Step, hustle, and salsa. You don't need a partner to attend. The dances welcome all levels, from beginners to competitors, and from Super Seniors to tangueros to Two-Steppers. The venue features a cool dance floor and air conditioning.
Admission is $5 for USA Dance members and $10 for non-members; both prices include all lessons. Members gain a $5 discount on every dance, pay for their membership back after just 7 visits, and receive free admission to occasional Member Appreciation Dances. The chapter also hosts special events including dinner dances, contests (such as Jack and Jill competitions with random pairings), satellite dances in Santa Fe, and anniversary celebrations.
Founded in October 2005 with just eight members, USA Dance of North Central New Mexico was officially certified as USA Dance Chapter #5047 on February 28, 2006. It has grown to an email list of around 800 people, drawing dancers from Albuquerque, Socorro, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and beyond. The chapter is run entirely by volunteers—from the elected board of directors to DJs, door staff, and setup crew. Over the years, the chapter has promoted ballroom dancing through community outreach including Ballroom 101 courses, workplace classes (Dancing@Work at Intel and Presbyterian Healthcare Services), a Dance Formation Team that performed at senior centers, and scholarship awards funded by the Seidman Family Foundation.
USA Dance of North Central New Mexico is a chapter of USA Dance, Inc., a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality and quantity of dance in the United States. The national organization has more than 150 local chapters across the country and sponsors amateur and pro/am competitions, including USA Dance Nationals.
What to expect
Your first visit
You'll arrive to find lessons underway before the main dance floor opens. Choose from a line dance class, a beginner lesson, or intermediate/advanced instruction—all included in your $5 or $10 admission. Then spend two hours dancing to a DJ mix of ballroom, Latin, swing, and other styles. Partners aren't required; many dancers come solo.

USA Dance of North Central New Mexico was founded in October 2005 by chapter pioneers Ben Porter, Shawna Hollen, Ed Jonas-Morrison, Sally Semm, Caren Waters, and Anna Watkins, starting with just eight members. The chapter was officially certified as USA Dance Chapter #5047 on February 28, 2006. It has since grown to serve an email list of around 800 people and now hosts dances twice monthly instead of the original once per month. The chapter has also actively promoted ballroom dancing through community initiatives including Ballroom 101 courses, workplace dance classes, a Dance Formation Team, and scholarship awards.
