Arthur Murray Dance Club

Arthur Murray Dance Club has been teaching dance for more than 100 years. The New York location sits at 1711 1st Ave on the Upper East Side and offers classes in ballroom, Latin, swing and other styles for adults, kids and teens.

You can learn as a couple or as a single — the studio pairs solo students with a professional instructor. The range spans wedding dance preparation, social dancing, and competitive training at the highest level. For kids and teens (from age 4 up), the emphasis is on building confidence, coordination and social skills through ballroom dance. Classes start with the basics of footwork and movement, then progress to more complex steps and patterns as your skills improve.

The program includes waltz, quickstep, salsa, rumba, tango, merengue, bolero, foxtrot, cha cha, disco, hustle, kizomba and bachata. You don't need to arrive with a dance partner, prior experience or natural talent — the studio emphasizes that dance is a practical skill that opens you to a warm, friendly community and gives you access to events like weddings and company parties.

The first lesson is beginner-friendly and designed as an entry point. Kids' classes are structured to build a strong foundation and allow students to improve at their own pace. Students may have the opportunity to participate in dance performance and competition, which the studio frames as a way to showcase skills and earn recognition.

Your first lesson is 45 minutes and beginner-friendly. You may be paired with a professional instructor if you're learning as a single. Classes focus on footwork and movement basics, building toward more complex steps as you progress.
