About this studio

Ballroom & Latin Dance Club has been running since 2014 from Bloomington City Hall's Center for the Arts. They teach a wide range of ballroom and Latin styles at basic, social, intermediate and advanced levels: Rumba, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Salsa, Bachata, Nightclub two-step, Country 2-step, Hustle, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Bolero, Cumbia, Samba and Polka. They accept requests for special dances too.

Every Saturday the club runs a three-part evening: a 50-minute beginner lesson focused on basic steps (6:30–7:20 pm), a 40-minute intermediate/advanced lesson teaching the same two dances with more complex steps (7:20–8:00 pm), and a two-hour variety dance party (8:00–10:00 pm). Both lessons teach the same two dances each night, so newcomers can start at the first lesson and progress through both if they wish. You do not need to bring a partner; partners are rotated regularly during lessons, which the club says is an effective method to develop your following and leading techniques.

Private lessons are available every day at $80 for one person or one couple, 50 minutes plus 10 minutes of practice if you have a partner. Private group lessons run $120–$140 per session. The club also offers off-site lessons for special events, including wedding dance instruction and performances at third-party locations.

The club hosts special parties throughout the year, with photo galleries showing events like the 2024 St. Patrick's Party, 2023 Halloween Party, 2022 8th-year Anniversary celebration, and an International Festival. They also run dance showcases; galleries from 2016–2019 are available on their website.
