About this studio

Bravo Dancing Ballroom Academy operates at SoHo Dance LA in Los Angeles, teaching ballroom and Latin dance to individuals, couples, and groups. The studio is run by Lorena, who holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from USC and is certified with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Her teaching philosophy rests on the belief that talent is overrated—that dance is a series of easy movements needing coordination, and that dedication, efficient practice, and knowledgeable instruction matter far more than innate ability.

Lorena's competitive record is substantial. In 2007 she became US National Pro-Am Smooth Champion and reached finalist status in both American Rhythm and 9-Dance at the US Amateur National Championship. Between 2008 and 2018 she was a Professional American Smooth Open and Rising Star finalist in major competitions including the Emerald Ball, Embassy Ball, and California Open Championship. In 2018 she won the Seattle Star Ball American Smooth Professional Championship. From 2012 to 2015 she held the Professional International Rising Star title at the Galaxy Dancesport Festival and Seattle Star Ball.

Teaching styles include American and International Ballroom, American Rhythm and International Latin, Swing and Hustle, and Salsa and Merengue. Private lessons are available for all levels—from complete beginners through those preparing for exams or competitive events. Each student or couple receives a personalised dance programme with written syllabus, lesson planning, and progress tracking, plus their own dance folder for notes. Video recordings are encouraged. An introductory package of two 45-minute private lessons is available at the price of one.

Group classes are offered at the Los Angeles studio and at universities around the greater Los Angeles area, including USC, Claremont, and Santa Barbara, organised by the respective college ballroom teams. Lorena is Head Coach of the USC Ballroom Dance Team (since 2008) and Adjunct Faculty at Chapman University College of Performing Arts. The studio also offers wedding dance services, with options ranging from full choreographed show routines to foundational partner dancing for confidence at events. Consultations and introductory lessons are available to plan your ideal dance.
