Centre Solea is a flamenco school and cultural venue located at 68 Rue Sainte in Marseille's 13001 district. Founded by Maria Pérez, who has devoted more than thirty years to transmitting flamenco in Marseille, the centre combines rigorous training with a commitment to musical and emotional depth. The school welcomes beginners, confirmed dancers, children, adolescents and adults, and your first class is free—a chance to discover the flamenco world, meet the teachers and find the level that suits you without obligation.
Beyond regular classes, Centre Solea functions as a performance and event venue. It hosts tablao evenings—intimate performances such as those featuring Aitana Rousseau, described as an emerging voice in contemporary flamenco. The centre also runs workshops: recent cajón (flamenco drum) workshops with Juan Luis Fernandez, for example, are offered in beginner and intermediate sessions, working on posture, fundamental sounds, rhythmic precision and understanding of compás.
The Festival Flamenco Azul, now in its eighth season, is the centre's flagship annual event, running across multiple weeks with spectacles, transmission and contemporary creations. The festival has hosted major artists including Antonio Canales, Manolo Marín, Andrés Marín, Adela Campallo, Rafael de Utrera, Amador Rojas, Pilar Ortega, Paloma Fantova, Pepe de Pura, Juan José Amador, Moisés Navarro, Patricia Guerrero, Luis de la Carrasca, Gema Moneo and Choro Molina.
The centre's end-of-year spectacles celebrate what the organisation calls "La Tribu Solea"—mostly women who invest generously in their learning, working on themselves to progress and shine. The school year concludes with these celebrations that close "une saison encore une fois magique" (yet another magical season), reflecting 33 years of projects, encounters and renewed enthusiasm.
What to expect
Your first visit
Adult classes resume each September; your first session is free. Classes run in the evenings at the studio on Rue Sainte. The teaching draws on over thirty years of transmission in Marseille and emphasises both technical rigour and musicality. Beyond regular classes, you can attend master classes with visiting artists, cajón workshops, tablao evenings and the annual Festival Flamenco Azul.
