About this studio

Clandestien teaches 50s rock 'n roll, boogie woogie and rhythm and blues dancing at Akhnaton, Nieuwezijds Kolk 25 in Amsterdam. Classes run on Wednesday evenings in 8-week courses, with instruction offered at multiple levels from complete beginner to advanced. Lessons are taught in Dutch, with simultaneous English translation when needed — all languages are welcome.

Beyond the formal courses, Clandestien runs a free weekly social dancing session called 'vrijdansen' every Wednesday from 20:30 onwards (except during summer break, holidays and special events). During vrijdansen, rotating DJs provide the music, and you're welcome to dance with anyone, grab a drink from the bar, chat with other dancers or simply enjoy the music. This is open to everyone at no cost.

The studio also offers private lessons, workshops and group performances for weddings, corporate events and other occasions — details available under 'Huur ons in' (Hire us). If you miss a class during a course, the previous week's moves are always repeated, so you won't fall behind. The studio is not a commercial operation; lessons are taught out of passion, which is why Wednesday is the only regular teaching night, though workshops and special events can be arranged on other days.

First-time visitors can often join the first lesson of any course as a free trial class (subject to space), though you must register in advance so they know to expect you. Occasional standalone trial lessons and workshops are announced via their Facebook page and newsletter.
