About this studio

Cleveland Ballroom Company has been teaching ballroom and Latin dance for over 25 years. The studio is run by Nichy Vegas, owner and principal instructor, who has been a nationally recognized competitor, instructor and adjudicator of ballroom and Latin dance for over 34 years. His pro competitive career focused on American Smooth, American Rhythm, and Theater Arts. He is also the organizer of the Cleveland Dancesport Challenge, now in its 19th year, held annually in September.

The studio teaches American Smooth (waltz, tango, foxtrot, Viennese waltz), American Rhythm (cha-cha, rumba, east coast swing, bolero, mambo), International Standard and Latin, plus salsa, hustle, samba and west coast swing. Group classes run Wednesdays and Thursdays 7 p.m.–8 p.m. and Sundays 4 p.m.–5 p.m. All classes are pay-as-you-go with no contracts required. Private lessons are available by appointment, and the studio offers competition training, wedding dance choreography, youth and teen programmes (ages 7–16), and corporate and non-profit wellness programmes including Latin Lunch, Leading and Following, and Waltz to Success.

The instructors include PJ Navarro, Mario Caliri and Aaron Blizzard (American Smooth, Rhythm, International Standard and Latin), Lisa Wheeler-Cooper (Masala-Bhangra and Zumba), and Jim Call (Hustle, with 35 years' experience as a hustle instructor and competitor). The studio occupies 4,000 sq ft of open dance and event space with sound and lighting, located at 23500 Mercantile Road, Suite G in Beachwood.

The CBC also functions as a venue for private events. The space accommodates comfortable seating for 80 with dancing and is available for dance events, reunions, birthday and graduation parties. Catering recommendations are provided. The studio offers plentiful, convenient parking and convenient access from I-271 and I-480. Private group dance classes can be arranged to enhance events.

What to expect

Your first visit

You will join a group or take a private lesson in a 4,000 sq ft open dance space. Group classes are friendly and social; men and women rotate partners, so you need neither prior experience nor a dance partner. The instructors will teach you basics and work at a pace suited to the room.
