About this studio

Cosy Montreal is a nonprofit Argentine tango cultural organization rooted in the traditions of Buenos Aires. For decades, the organization has built and sustained the tango community in Plateau Mont-Royal through classes, cultural milongas, and guided practices. Argentine tango is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and Cosy Montreal treats it as a living cultural language — transmitting not just steps, but music, connection, posture, listening, elegance, and shared presence.

The studio operates on a weekly rhythm. Every Tuesday, Cosy Montreal offers a complete Argentine tango experience: an introduction to Argentine tango focused on connection, musicality, movement and embrace; a guided practice session designed to improve technique, confidence, posture and movement quality; and a cultural milonga inspired by Buenos Aires traditions. Friday evenings feature an elegant cultural milonga with refined music selection and a respectful dress code inspired by traditional Buenos Aires. Both nights bring together beginners, advanced students, and passionate milongueros in a warm, respectful community atmosphere.

The space itself supports the work. The venue features a wooden floor, professional sound system, and comfortable surroundings designed for tango. Classes run 1.5 hours and are designed for absolute beginners through advanced dancers. Tuesday activities focus on figures, communication, improvisation, leading and following techniques, musical interpretation, and creative improvisation. Friday activities introduce foundational elements: walking and posture, the embrace, connection and communication, musicality, floor navigation, and milonga traditions and etiquette, with intermediate-level figures also introduced.

Under the supervision of Santiago Gimenez — a pioneer of Argentine tango on Montreal's Plateau Mont-Royal who has actively contributed to tango development in the city for more than 30 years — participants discover an environment where tradition, learning, and community come together. The organization also operates Jive Studio, which offers Rockabilly Jive classes at multiple levels (Jive 01 through Jive 04) with flexible pricing and summer workshops. Contact is fastest via WhatsApp.
