About this studio

JiveStudio teaches Rockabilly Jive, Bop, and Stroll — the rock'n'roll dances of the 1950s. You don't need any dance experience to start, and you don't need a partner. Everyone rotates partners during classes, which the studio says is the best way to progress. Sessions run for six weeks, and you can take just one evening a week if that's all your schedule allows.

The studio has been running this community for 20 years. Classes go from absolute beginner through advanced levels, and if you want to go further, you can join one of their troupes to learn choreographies and perform on stage — open to all levels from your first session.

Beyond classes, JiveStudio hosts weekly Tuesday rock'n'roll socials at Enfants du Rock, where the night starts with a free Rockabilly Jive initiation class at 7pm, then continues with dancing, music from the 1950s–60s, and drinks at low prices until midnight (dancing costs $8 after the free class). Every second Saturday, they run a monthly Rock ON! evening at Centre Saint-Barthélemy with another free initiation class at 7pm, dancing, a bar with house cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options, and a $15 entry fee.

The studio also handles private events — if you want original rock'n'roll entertainment for a party or celebration, they organise that too. First-timers get a free initiation class to learn the basics and have some fun before the social part of the evening begins. The studio's message is consistent: zero intimidation, no pressure, and everyone starts as a beginner.
