About this studio
Tango Libre has been teaching Argentine tango in the heart of the Plateau for 30 years. The studio offers structured group classes across multiple levels, from Bases 1 through advanced technique work, alongside regular social dance events.
Classes run on a seasonal basis. The current offerings include Bases 1, Bases 2, Bases 3, Barridas sacadas et paradas, Milonga lisa, and Interprétation musicale (musical interpretation across different orchestras). Techniques pour tous (Techniques for all) is available for dancers wanting to sharpen fundamentals at any level. Classes typically run twice per weeknight, with the earlier slot at 19:00 and a later option at 20:15.
Beyond structured lessons, Tango Libre hosts regular social events. Friday night dances run from 20:15 to midnight, and Sunday practicas (informal dance sessions) happen from 14:00 to 16:00. Free trial classes are offered at the start of each session, giving newcomers a low-pressure way to experience Argentine tango.
The studio also runs seasonal programmes: a 6-week mini-session in winter, a 10-week autumn session, and spring and summer offerings. Summer sees Tango à la belle étoile (Tango under the stars) outdoor sessions held at the Serres municipales de Verdun from June through September. Pricing has ranged from $120 for a 6-week mini-session to $200 for a full 10-week session ($180 for students).
The space is at 1650 rue Marie-Anne Est, easily reached by bus (routes 97 and 45) or a 12-minute walk from Métro Mont-Royal. The studio is open Monday through Thursday 19:00–21:30, Friday 19:00–midnight, and Sunday 14:00–16:00, with Saturdays closed.

Your first visit
Free trial classes let you sample Argentine tango before committing. You'll work through basic steps and technique with instructors and other students. Regular classes mix technique building with musicality and partner work; Friday nights and Sunday practicas offer social dancing in a relaxed setting.
