About this studio
Dancelot has been leading Johannesburg's dance scene since 1975, founded by Brian Schmidt and Meryl Williams—seven-time undefeated professional dance champions with nine world representations. The studio operates three locations: Kensington, Bedfordview, and Eastgate, each offering the same commitment to technique and joy.
You can learn Ballroom and Latin American styles through group classes or private lessons, all with no partner required. Group classes run Monday and Thursday in Bedfordview, covering Jive, Foxtrot, Boogie, Waltz, Cha Cha Cha, and Line Dancing. There are no contracts—you can start anytime. Private lessons are structured to your individual needs and available across all skill levels, from beginner to competitive training. Teachers are internationally qualified in Associate and Licentiate Ballroom and Latin American styles.
If you're getting married, Dancelot specializes in wedding choreography for couples, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, bridesmaids and groomsmen line dances, and family group classes. The studio tailors routines to your style and comfort level, ensuring your first dance is as memorable as your big day.
Beyond lessons, Dancelot hosts monthly social dance events where you can practise and connect with other dancers. All ages are welcome, and the studio emphasizes fitness, friendship, and the pure joy of movement. The Bedfordview location is open Monday to Friday 8am–10pm, Saturday 8am–8pm, and Sunday 8am–5pm.
What to expect
