About this studio

DanceWell PDX Parkrose is part of a Portland-area ballroom studio founded in 1988 by Linda Springstead. What began as evening classes through Clackamas Community Education grew into a full-time business in 1990, and has expanded to multiple locations. The Parkrose location at 4848 NE 105th Ave serves northeast Portland and the airport area. Since 2000, DanceWell has operated as an independent studio focused on social dancing with what they call "panache" — dancing that is joyful, welcoming, and technically grounded.

The studio teaches ballroom, Latin, swing, and Lindy Hop to adults and youth. Group classes run on a monthly series basis, with new sessions beginning the first week of each month. Classes are structured around four clear levels: Beginner (little or no experience), Pre-Intermediate (foundational skills), Intermediate (1–2+ years experience), and Advanced (2+ years to decades of experience). Each class runs 45 minutes of instruction followed by guided practice, with partner rotation encouraged so you dance with many people — no partner required. Beginners are welcomed; the studio emphasizes that most students spend 6–9 months or longer building skills in early levels, and many repeat classes to refine technique rather than race through.

Youth classes serve middle school, high school, and young adults aged 15–20, teaching the same ballroom, Latin, and swing styles in a no-pressure environment focused on coordination, confidence, and teamwork. Students aged 15–20 can join adult group classes at a special youth rate.

Drop-in classes are available for single-class visits; prepaid series offer better rates. Private lessons are also offered for personalised instruction. The studio hosts regular social dance parties and practicas for practice and socialising. Linda Springstead, owner and director, has been central to Portland's ballroom scene for over 30 years and instructed weekly classes at the Crystal Ballroom from 1997 onwards.

Studio history

DanceWell Ballroom was founded in 1988 when Linda Springstead began teaching ballroom and social dancing through Clackamas Community Education. The venture quickly grew in popularity, and in 1990 Linda turned it into a full-time business. The studio expanded from its original Southeast Portland location in the Hollywood district to multiple sites, eventually settling in Parkrose (near PDX airport) and Aloha/Beaverton. Since 2000, it has operated as an independent studio.
