About this studio
DSM Breakerz teaches breakdancing, hip hop, and kung fu to children and adults across Des Moines and West Des Moines. Classes run for 6 weeks at a time and are held at Hope+Elim (2500 University Ave, Des Moines) and Valley Junction Activity Center (217 5th St, West Des Moines).
The studio offers beginner through advanced breakdancing classes for ages 5 and up, with separate tracks for youth and adults. Youth intro breaking is taught by Coach Skyler on Monday afternoons. Youth breaking classes at intermediate and advanced levels are led by Coach Ninja Tom on Tuesday evenings, with an additional advanced/adult breaking class also on Tuesday. Hip hop classes suitable for ages 5 and up are led by Coach Curran. Kung fu instruction is available all ages and is taught by Coach Ninja Tom, who also leads Chinese lion dance classes. Youth tumbling is offered on Monday evenings with Coach Skyler.
Membership classes at Hope+Elim run on Monday and Tuesday evenings, with class times between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. The studio also offers classes through West Des Moines Parks and Recreation at Valley Junction Activity Center on Sundays, with separate breaking levels for ages 5–7 (Level I, 3:15–4:00pm) and ages 8–16 (Level II, 4:00–5:00pm). Registration for WDM classes happens through www.wdm.iowa.gov.
Beyond regular classes, DSM Breakerz organises Midwest Mayhem, a major annual event featuring dance workshops, competitions, live music, food vendors, and special performances. The studio accepts inquiries for performances at parties, weddings, and corporate events. They maintain a team merch store and publish media documenting their work.

Your first visit
Expect high-energy, supportive instruction in a youth-focused environment. Classes emphasise learning fundamental moves, footwork, and freezes while building coordination and self-confidence. Instructors guide both absolute beginners and experienced dancers through energetic choreography and creative self-expression.
