About this studio

Tanya Ogden's Dance FX has been teaching dance in Des Moines since 1999. The studio offers a structured progression of classes built around their Diamond system, a tiered combination-class approach that develops diverse dancers across multiple styles. You can start as early as 18–36 months in Wiggles 'N Giggles, a 30-minute class where caregivers are welcome to join. From there, the progression moves through Pink Diamonds (ages 3–4, 45 minutes, Creative Movement and Tap), Yellow Diamonds (ages 4.5–6, 60 minutes, Ballet, Tap and Jazz), Green Diamonds (1st grade and older, 75 minutes, Ballet, Tap and Jazz), Blue Diamonds (grades 4–5, 90 minutes, Ballet, Tap and Jazz with a focus on technique expansion), Red Diamonds (pre-teens, 120 minutes, Tap, Jazz and Lyrical), and White Diamond Jazz (ages 13 and up, 120 minutes, Contemporary, Tap and Jazz). Each class is designed to be developmentally appropriate, with classwork split among styles and advancement based on individual growth.

Beyond the Diamond classes, DFX teaches Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Hip Hop, Acro and Pom. Adult classes are offered and typically run in 4–6 week sessions, with a minimum of 3 enrolled students required for a class to be held. The studio's mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for dancers of all ages and skill levels, with a goal not only to teach dance but to help individuals discover and apply the true characteristics of a quality and success-seeking individual.

The teaching staff includes Tanya (Director), Mr. Nick (who grew up dancing at DFX, spent 4 years with the Pro Track at LADM dance company, and has been teaching at DFX for 5 years), Miss Brylie (DFX graduate 2019, attended Iowa Central Community College, earned 3 national titles at the NDA championships, and is assistant coach of the ADM dance team), Miss Sammy (DFX alumna who graduated from Lincoln High School in 2020 and holds a Master's degree in Athletic Training from Grandview University), and Miss Bekah (DFX graduate of Dowling High School 2023, currently studying at Drake University). Mrs. Mary Beth taught at DFX for 5 years before taking time off to start a family.

DFX is located at 333 Southwest 9th Street, Suite H, one block south of MLK, in a one-story brick building west of CubeSmart off Tuttle Street. Hours are Monday to Thursday 5–9 pm, Sunday 5–9 pm, Saturday by appointment, and Friday closed.
