About this studio
Dr. Dance Studio teaches ballroom and Latin American dancing at The Magnolia Ballroom in Vestavia Hills, just off I-65 on Columbiana Road. The studio is run by Steve Hadley and Kim Smith, who are WDSF World Championship Adjudicators and the only ones in Alabama. Their team has coached more than 10 National Championship couples, many holding multiple USA Dance National titles.
The studio offers three main pathways: social dancing with individual and small group instruction designed to get you moving from the first step; wedding day dancing for first dances, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, and reception participation; and competitive training. They also run group dancing sessions where you can test your skills with different partners.
The teaching covers the full ballroom and Latin repertoire: Slow Dance, Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Swing, Jive, Shag, Mambo, Merengue, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, and Paso Doble. The instructors hold certifications from the American International Dancers Association, North American Dance Teachers Association, USA Dance, and the World DanceSport Federation.
Student testimonials highlight the studio's effectiveness: one couple reported being fully prepared for their wedding first dance, while another said ballroom dancing with their spouse has "rekindled our marriage" and become more enjoyable than therapy. The studio hosts regular parties and group lessons, creating a friendly social environment alongside serious training.
