About this studio
Dreamland Ballroom occupies the third floor of Taborian Hall at 800 W 9th Street in Little Rock, a building that has stood for over a century as a landmark of the Black community. From the 1920s through the mid-20th century, it was the only consistently safe stop on the Chitlin Circuit in Arkansas and hosted performances by Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, B.B. King, and Cab Calloway. The venue was the heart of "The Line" — the cultural epicentre of West Ninth Street.
After decades of closure, the ballroom underwent restoration beginning in 1990 and a comprehensive renovation from 2019 to 2024, supported by three grants from the National Park Service. It is now fully ADA compliant and open to the public for the first time in over 50 years. You can hold your wedding or event on the same stage where jazz and blues legends performed.
The ballroom seats up to 400 people and includes 4 restrooms (one handicap accessible), HVAC, and elevator access. Rental includes 150 chairs, 10 five-foot round tables, 10 cocktail tables, 2 eight-foot rectangular tables, and 16 six-foot rectangular tables. There is plenty of space for catering and onsite parking. The venue is close to downtown hotels and can provide social media promotion for public events.
The space is also available for photo and video shoots during business hours. Dreamland Lounge, a separate 50-person capacity space on the first floor of Taborian Hall, can serve as a pre-function area. The Friends of Dreamland Ballroom, a nonprofit organisation, manages the venue and works to preserve the legacy of this historic site.
