About this studio
Arkansas Academy of Dance has been the leading classical ballet training institute in Central Arkansas since 2000. The school operates in partnership with Arkansas Festival Ballet, a non-profit performing arts company, and is housed in a 7,500 square foot facility on Main Street in Little Rock's downtown. The space includes three studios and a Black Box Theatre, all equipped with sprung flooring and marley-covered dance surfaces, wall mirrors, wall barres, and portable barres. Two dressing rooms and two bathrooms (with handicap accessibility) serve students, and viewing windows allow parents to observe classes from the waiting area.
The school's mission centres on empowering youth through classical ballet, enriching dance education and energizing the human spirit through movement. Classes are structured across age and skill divisions: Creative Movement for ages 2–4 (Mini Dance Class, offered as ballet or ballet-and-tap combos); Young Dancer Division for ages 5–7 (Pre-Ballet); Student Dancer Division for ages 7–9 (Ballet 1–2); Pre-Apprentice Division for ages 9–12 and up (Ballet 3–5); and Apprentice and Pre-Professional Division (Ballet 6–8) for advanced students aged 11 and older. The school also offers Teen Beginning Ballet for ages 13–17, Pre-Teen Beginning Ballet for ages 9–12, and dedicated Adult Ballet classes for ages 18 and up.
Beyond ballet technique, the curriculum includes Modern/Contemporary classes for pre-apprentice and advanced levels, Somatic Movement (Thursdays, taught by Trent Montgomery), and Pilates (Saturdays, also led by Montgomery). Private lessons are available year-round in formats ranging from 30 to 60 minutes, with options for technique correction, skill-focused work, competition preparation, and solo rehearsal.
The faculty includes Rebecca Miller Stalcup (Dance Studio Director), Trent Montgomery, Louisa Utley, Meredith Zachritz, Farah Stalcup, and Avery Head. Classes operate on a regular schedule from September to May, with drop-in classes available at $25 per session. Summer programmes include a four-week Summer Intensive, Tiny Tot Dance Camp, and a full Midsummer Dance Academy. The school emphasises age-appropriate curriculum, high-caliber training, and a nurturing environment that builds character, self-esteem, and discipline.
