About this studio
Estelle Jones School of Dance has been inspiring dancers for over 50 years in West Hartford. The studio teaches authentic traditional Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz to students ranging from age 2 to adult. Classes are structured to let students choose their level of commitment, from one class a week to multiple classes per week. The studio emphasizes proper technique and provides performance opportunities at an annual show, where students learn to strive for personal excellence and work as a team while enjoying the classical discipline and creative expression.
The school was founded in 1964 by Estelle Jones (Miss Estelle), who brought world-class training from the American Ballet Theatre School in NYC. She studied with leading dancers including Alexandra Danilova, Bronislava Nijinska, Madame Schola, William Dollar, Igor Youskevitch and Leon Danielian. In 1977, Miss Estelle introduced Classical Ballet to Central Connecticut State University, and in 2006 a scholarship was created in her honour at CCSU for aspiring dancers.
Teaching has remained in the family. Cathy Triarhos (Miss Cathy), Miss Estelle's daughter, became a teacher's assistant at a young age and has been teaching for over 30 years for the Plymouth Board of Education. She holds both elementary and special education certifications and has been tested to teach by Dance Masters of America and Dance Teachers' Club of CT. She keeps current through monthly master classes, conventions, workshops and study at various dance studios in NYC. Miss Cathy has also taught Greek folk dancing to children at the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and for the Arts in Action Camp in Avon.
Emily Camargo (Miss Emily) studied at Estelle Jones School of Dance from age 7 and now teaches there. She holds both elementary and special education certifications and is employed as a Special Education Teacher in West Hartford. She has choreographed various musicals for Bristow Middle School.
The annual recital is a highlight for students and families. Testimonials describe the studio as a true family, with Miss Cathy praised for taking dance instruction seriously while making it fun. Long-term students report decades of involvement—one family member danced there for 15 years in the 1970s and 1980s, while another has been with the school since 1997. Adult students also take classes, including parent-and-child options.
