Fred Astaire Dance Studio - Anchorage

Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Anchorage has been teaching Alaskans to dance for over 40 years. The studio is located at 1300 E 68th Avenue, Suite 202, about 4 miles from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and half a mile from the Anchorage Community Theatre.

The studio offers instruction in a full range of ballroom, Latin, swing, nightclub, country western and Argentine dance styles. Specific dances taught include Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Argentine Tango, Quickstep, Bolero, Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa, Mambo, Samba, Merengue, Paso Doble, East Coast Swing, Jive, Hustle, Nightclub Two Step, and Polka. Lessons are available for all ages and skill levels, from beginner to experienced dancer. No partner is necessary—singles are welcome, and your instructor will be your partner for private lessons.

The studio's teaching system combines private lessons, group classes and practice parties. Private lessons are tailored to your personal needs and conducted by appointment. Group classes are designed to complement private instruction and cover a variety of dances and technique topics. Practice sessions are held in a party-style atmosphere with dimmed lights and music, allowing you to apply what you've learned in a social setting without pressure.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio specializes in wedding dance instruction. They offer everything from simple first dances to fully choreographed routines for the entire wedding party set to your favourite music. They also choreograph father-daughter and mother-son dances. The studio recommends scheduling lessons at least a month before the ceremony, or further in advance for more involved routines. Wedding dance lessons double as date nights, helping couples de-stress during wedding planning.

All dance instructors are certified in the Fred Astaire curriculum and many hold Fine Arts degrees and are actively competing, award-winning professional dancers. Instructors come from all over the world. The studio owner and professional instructor is Cheryl Jones, who serves as owner, choreographer and instructor. Students have access to an online studio dance store with dozens of dance-related items, and can compete in regional, inter-regional, national and international Pro-Am and professional dance competitions.
