About this studio
Harmony School of Ballroom Dance teaches International Standard, American Smooth, and Rhythm styles in Spokane. Founded by Ingrid LaVoie, a former gold star-level ballroom champion trained through the ADTV (German Dance Teachers Association), the school operates from a studio space at Vytal Movement Dance Company. Ingrid has worked with students of all ages and abilities for over 20 years, bringing experience from teaching at Spokane Civic Theatre, Spokane Valley Summer Theatre, Whitworth University, local high schools, and the Oaks Conservatory for the Creative and Performing Arts.
The school offers five main lesson tracks. True Beginner classes introduce Waltz, Foxtrot, and Nightclub Two-Step, teaching basic figures and technique with emphasis on confidence-building and fun — no partner required. Accelerated Beginners classes move experienced dancers new to ballroom through the fundamentals faster, focusing on technique and style. Beyond the Basics workshops build on fundamentals with intermediate bronze and silver level work, covering Waltz, Foxtrot, Nightclub Two-Step, Tango, Quickstep, and Viennese Waltz, among others.
One-on-One Lessons cost $75 per hour, with wedding packages including choreography for your first dance tailored to your song and vision. Group Lessons run at $15 per person or $25 per couple per session. The school also offers Next Generation Ballroom classes for pre-teens and teens (ages 12 and up) following the school year schedule, coached by Ingrid and her husband Mark as a husband-and-wife team.
Mark LaVoie brings technical expertise to the teaching partnership. Relatively new to ballroom himself, he excels as a lead coach with an eye for detail and a special focus on International Standard Ballroom. He helps students master advanced amalgamations and develop technique at higher levels. Together, they teach that everyone can learn to dance, building both practical skills and confidence with patience, kindness, and enthusiasm.
Community Dances are part of the school's offering, and the school can support audition preparation. The teaching philosophy emphasises skills training while discovering the joy of dance and building community across artistic, generational, and cultural divides.

Studio history
Ingrid LaVoie began dancing at age four in Germany, training in ballet, lyrical, jazz, modern and contemporary before finding her passion in ballroom at twelve. She became a gold star-level ballroom champion competing through the highest amateur levels of the ADTV. After moving to the United States, she has taught at venues including Spokane Civic Theatre, Spokane Valley Summer Theatre, Whitworth University, local high schools, and the Oaks Conservatory for the Creative and Performing Arts. She is currently pursuing her dream of directing a School of Ballroom Dance in Spokane.
