About this studio
Johnny and Lisa Permar are professional dancers with over 30 years of experience. Johnny danced for many years with the Southern Ballet Theater in Orlando, is a Universal Buck Dancing Champion, and was teaching across the nation at age 16. He is a Rising Star and Open Professional American Smooth Finalist and has won a multitude of Top Teacher awards in many styles of dance. Lisa won her first competition in UCWDC in 1995 and then competed in West Coast Swing, winning her first championship at the Fort Lauderdale 'Just Swingin' Open Swing Competition. Together, Johnny and Lisa are two-time Florida State West Coast Swing Champions, US National Division 1 West Coast Swing Champions, US National 2nd place finalists in Caberet Division, and Harborview DanceSport Open Professional 'anything goes' Champions.
Alongside Johnny and Lisa, the studio is home to Nery Garcia, founder and owner of DanceSWFL and the original founder and creator of Elegant Rumba Dance Company, established in 2008. Nery is credited as one of the "World's Best Leads" by world-renowned salsa dancer Edie the Salsa Freak and is featured on her "World's Best Leads" DVD series. He was a featured contestant on "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 4 on FOX and appeared on MTV's MADE "MADE into a Salsa Dancer" episode. Nery Garcia is known as a Salsa YouTube Sensation with millions of followers drawn to his unique Elegant Salsa Style.
The studio offers private lessons, group classes, workshops, competition dance training, and social dance parties. Johnny and Lisa organised the 'WILL DANCE FOR FOOD' food drive, collecting over 2 tons of food benefiting St. Matthew's House and the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Collier County.
The studio is conveniently located on US-41, just six blocks north of Mercato, at 9655 Tamiami Trail N, suite 101, on the corner of US-41 and 97th Street.
