About this studio
Modern Steps School of Dance was founded in 1989 by Tammy Clark and her husband Jim Clemens to serve the ballroom community of Naples. The studio occupies a spacious wood dance floor at 4117 Tamiami Trail East and operates Monday to Friday 12 pm–8 pm, Saturday 7 pm–10 pm, with appointments available Sunday.
The teaching staff are professionally-trained dancers with significant competitive backgrounds. James Clemens, CEO and MC, started his ballroom career with his wife Tammy in 1984, competing professionally around the country in American Smooth. Tammy Clark, Studio Founder and Creative Director, is a former undefeated Regional and National Champion in American Smooth, American Rhythm and International Standard, and a former United States Bronze Medalist in American Rhythm. Mac McCloud, who began dancing socially in 2001 and teaching ballroom in 2011, is skilled across all dance styles with standout talent in rhythmic styles; he has taken top honors at the Sunburst Ball in Scottsdale, Arizona (2012), Spring Swing in Tampa (2014), and Swing into Summer in Naples (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). Carolyn Bivans discovered her passion for ballroom dancing in 1993 and has excelled in both smooth and rhythm, competing locally before developing her teaching skills.
The studio teaches both International and American Styles across a comprehensive range of dances: Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Salsa, Paso Doble, Hustle, Samba, Fox Trot, Quick Step, Swing, Merengue, Nightclub Slow, Country 2 Step, West Coast Swing, Viennese Waltz, Cha Cha, Mambo and Bolero. Group classes are offered for beginners (including Samba for Beginners) and the studio hosts regular Social Dance events. Instruction is available for all levels from beginner to championship, and competitive training is available for dancers preparing for competition.
Group classes cost $15 per person or $30 per couple for one hour. An introductory private lesson for a first-time individual or couple is $30 for two half-hour sessions. Private lessons are $117 per lesson (50 minutes, up to 5 participants), or you can purchase fifty lessons and receive five free. The studio also offers customized wedding packages and volume rates for large-group private lessons. You do not need a partner to attend; instructors partner with singles in private lessons, and group classes and Social Dances provide opportunities to meet other students. You are welcome to register in advance or pay at the door; for private lessons, advance scheduling is recommended so you can discuss your dance style and goals. Arrive 10 minutes early. The studio is available to rent for events.
