About this studio
Just Dance NZ is a ballroom and Latin dance studio in East Tāmaki, Auckland, run by studio directors Gene Song and Min Fang. The studio offers group classes across a range of levels: social dancing for beginners and improvers, technique and medal test training, and competitive preparation for those aiming to enter dancesport competitions.
The teaching team includes Gene and Min (senior instructors with over 10 years of competitive dancing experience and many national titles), Alex Prykhno and Sandy Chang (national championship-titled teachers and medal test specialists), and Enrique Johns and Amy Horner (Latin American specialists and NZ professional champions in NZRDI and NZFTD). All instructors are qualified adjudicators. Sandy also specialises in choreographing and styling wedding dances.
Classes run Monday to Saturday. Monday evenings offer beginner and improver social dancing from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Tuesday covers New Vogue beginners (8:30–9:00pm) and New Vogue technique (7:30–8:30pm). Wednesday and Thursday feature Medal Advance classes in Latin and Ballroom (7:30–9:00pm). Friday is Junior and Adult Competitive Ballroom (6:00–8:30pm). Saturdays run kids' classes: Beginner (11:30am–1:15pm), Intermediate (9:30–11:30am), and Juvenile Latin Tech (6:45–7:30pm). Sunday offers Kids Advanced Ballroom and Latin (10:00am–12:00pm).
The kids programme accepts children aged 5 to 15 and progresses from beginner through bronze and silver syllabus levels, with the goal of introducing standard Ballroom and Latin dances in a social atmosphere before medal tests and, for those interested, competition training.
You do not need a partner to attend classes; the studio welcomes singles and couples, and teachers help partner single dancers. No special dance shoes are required to start; the studio has a large, cushioned dance floor. Visitors are welcome to watch classes from seating around the floor. Pre-paid lesson cards have no expiry date and can be used for any social class. Gift cards are available with a one-year expiry. Private lessons are available for faster progression toward medal tests or competition level.
