About this studio
Kakadu Dance Art Academy operates three studios in Zürich: the main centre at Löwenstrasse 20 (8001), Altstetten at Max-Högger-Strasse 6 (8048), and Niederglatt at Sägereistrasse 5 (8172). Founded by Nana Goni and Stelios Monachas, the academy brings 26 years of combined experience in dance education. The school has trained 9,800 dancers and helped establish 18 dance schools through its alumni network, working with 63 certified dance teachers across all levels.
Classes span partner dances (Ballroom, Standard, Latin, Argentine Tango, Disco Fox, Viennese Waltz, Cha-cha, Salsa), cultural styles (Greek dances, Zeibekiko, Flamenco, Cuban dances), modern movement (Modern dances, Athletic dance), and specialist formats (Ladies Style, Oriental, Line dances, Tango Burlesque). The studio runs regular group classes on a rotating schedule—no fixed progression means you can attend as often as you like without disrupting class flow. All lessons last 55 minutes.
Nana Goni trained at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Athens (Latin and Standard diplomas), Fred Astaire in New York (Argentine Tango, Salsa, Hustle, Bachata, Merengue, Bolero), Arthur Murray in Los Angeles (teacher training and studio management), and Fredidance in Slovenia (Competitive International Style). She previously owned Valentino Ballroom Dance Center (1998–2010), where she developed 63 professional dance programs and mentored instructors who founded 18 new schools; managed Dance Center Art & Style (2010–2015); and ran Cockatoo Dance School (2015–2020) before moving to Zürich.
Stelios Monachas studied Physical Education and Sport Science at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds CID-UNESCO recognition in Latin, Ballroom, and Modern dances, and specialized in Argentine Tango in Buenos Aires. He has taught across Greece's municipal dance programmes, cultural centres, theater schools, and international dance festivals. His research on learning, presented at CID-UNESCO World Dance Research Conferences, includes work on Zeybekiko and transcultural dance. He served as vice-president of CID-UNESCO's Ioannina branch and previously managed operations at Yava, Greece's largest gym chain.
The school emphasises connection and musicality over performance. Wedding dance coaching is popular—couples learn simple, natural choreography tailored to them with private lessons (6 lessons for 550 CHF, or 5 lessons with 1 free). New student groups start regularly across styles; beginners are explicitly welcomed. Solo students are paired with different partners each class, making the school accessible for those without a dance partner.
What to expect
Your first visit
You'll join a class of 55 minutes with clear instruction in technique and musicality. Teachers rotate partners during class so you dance with different people. Classes use a circular teaching system that lets you attend whenever you can without falling behind. A free trial is available regardless of whether you enrol.

Stelios Monachas (Creative Director) has 20+ years teaching dance, with CID-UNESCO credentials in Latin, Ballroom, and Modern dances, specialisation in Argentine Tango, and research published at international dance conferences. Both emphasise holistic development and cultural appreciation alongside technique.
