About this studio

Kaluby's Dance Club has been teaching social and competitive ballroom and Latin dance in Jacksonville since 1983, founded by Sarwat Kaluby. The studio specialises in a wide range of dances: Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Paso Doble, Rumba, Bolero, Cha-Cha, Samba, Hustle, Nightclub, Waltz, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quick Step, and Tango. All instruction is delivered by certified instructors who guide you from basic patterns through to advanced competitive standards.

Sarwat Kaluby, the owner and lead instructor, trained from age seven in Cairo, Egypt at the Academy of Art, then studied ballet with the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and the Kirov Theatre in St. Petersburg, where he earned his BA and MA in choreography. As a teenager he trained alongside performers including Mikhail Baryshnikov. He received the Bronze Medallion in the Second World Competition in Japan and performed with the Paris Opera House, Royal Ballet in Great Britain, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, New York City Ballet, and the American Ballroom Theater before establishing his Jacksonville practice.

The studio teaches on a program basis, beginning with an Introductory Program covering basic patterns of the most popular dances. After this, progression moves through General Variety and medal-standard levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold Bar, designed for both social and competitive (dance sport) development. Your instructor creates a personalised dance program tailored to your needs, and the pace depends on your frequency of attendance, goals, and commitment. Most students can master the basics of four dances within as little as five lessons.

Members enjoy exclusive access to group classes and studio social dance parties, described as the best way to gain confidence on the dance floor. The studio also offers wedding programmes: instead of a basic first dance, instructors design a personalised routine tailored to you and your partner. Kaluby's organises two major annual competitions: the Jacksonville Star Ball, a one-day ballroom competition for all levels held on 4 October 2025, and the First Coast Classic DanceSport Championships, a world-standard competition (11–14 March 2026 in St. Augustine, Florida) hosting Professional International Latin, Ballroom, American Smooth, Rhythm and Showdance divisions.
