About this studio
Swing Away runs seven locations across Hamburg—in Mitte, Altona, Eimsbüttel, Nord and Wandsbek—teaching Lindy Hop, swing dance, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, Shim Sham, Boogie Woogie and Rock 'n' Roll. The school has operated since 2016 and offers courses at all levels, from crash courses and trial classes to weekend workshops and private lessons for individuals and couples.
The class structure is built for easy entry. Trial classes (Schnupperkurse) are free. Beginner courses run daily with entry available any time, at 29€. Weekend workshops cost 15€. Private lessons run 24/7 at 39€ per session, taught either at your location or at one of their studios. As a beginner you need no prior experience and no partner to start.
Wladimir Elesin teaches across the network. The school positions itself around a philosophy of "new dance experiences, new acquaintances, new events"—reflected in both the teaching schedule and the social calendar they maintain.
Beyond classes, Swing Away runs regular social dancing. Four times a week you can attend free or low-cost social dance nights: Mondays in Barmbek, Wednesdays in Altona, and Fridays and Saturdays in Barmbek. Each evening includes a free trial class at 19:00 followed by social dance from 22:00 onwards (until 23:00 on weekdays, until midnight on weekends), with entry on a donation basis. The school also publishes a detailed calendar of swing events across Hamburg and runs WhatsApp and Signal community groups (with over 1100 members) to help dancers connect and arrange meetups.

Your first visit
Come to a free trial class at one of the seven locations—no booking required, though registration is welcome. You'll learn basics in an evening class format, then stay for social dancing if you wish. Wear comfortable shoes and light clothing.
