About this studio
Nashville Salsa Dancing teaches salsa through a structured four-level Foundations Program, each level running in a 4-week cycle with classes meeting once per week for one hour. The program is designed to build timing, connection, technique, and confidence that translates to social dancing, rather than memorising patterns. Foundations 1 covers timing, musical understanding, partner connection, and basic steps and right turns — the entry point for dancers new to salsa or rebuilding fundamentals. Foundations 2 introduces the Cross Body Lead, left turns, and shines including Crossover and Susie Q. Foundations 3 expands turn vocabulary with inside turns and variations, developing musical awareness through shines like Hip Walk. Foundations 4, the final level, covers outside turns, refines technique and balance, and explores shines such as the Front Double Cross, preparing dancers to move into S&P 100, which focuses on greater fluidity, musical interpretation, and personal style.
The studio runs three regular socials each month designed for dancers of all levels. Salseros Social is the flagship event, held the first Saturday of every month from 7–11 PM at Studio JD, and includes a lesson followed by hours of social dancing (£15 advance, £20 door). Salsa Cafe Afternoon, held the second Saturday from 2:30–4:30 PM at Tempo, is a relaxed, low-pressure social on a pay-what-you-value basis. Salsa Saloon Early Evening takes place the third Sunday from 4:30–7:30 PM at Urban Cowboy Bar (40 The Arcade), a lively bar venue event for ages 21+ (£10 advance, £12 door). All socials are welcoming to dancers of all levels, open to solo attendees, groups, or spectators.
The studio also hosts Dancers Paradise Festival, a low-pressure festival designed for connection and social dancing, scheduled for July 30 – August 1st, 2027, at locations to be confirmed (£120). The studio philosophy emphasises real human connection, cultural celebration, and joy through movement. You can start without a partner — partners rotate during class — and pre-registration is required for all Foundations levels. Students may retake a level for £50 off if they need more time before advancing. Those uncertain about their level can seek instructor approval.
