About this studio
Nashville Swing Dance Foundation teaches vintage jazz dance styles from the 1920s to 1950s at 630 Rundle Ave. The organisation runs a regular schedule of classes and social dancing on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of every month. Before each dance event, they offer a one-hour drop-in lesson covering basic East Coast Swing — the same material every week, so you can attend whenever suits you without needing to sign up in advance.
Classes run on Mondays throughout the year (though there are no Monday classes during summer; workshops and special events run instead). The drop-in lesson structure is designed to get beginners comfortable, introduce you to other dancers, and teach you enough moves to dance with confidence for the rest of the evening. You don't need to bring a partner — the group rotates partners throughout, so you'll dance with different people every time.
The foundation is family-friendly and open to all age levels. In Lindy Hop and other partner dances, you'll choose either a lead or follow role for each class series and stick with it; the organisation emphasises that both roles are equally valued and important. They welcome dancers of all experience levels and partner backgrounds.
Beyond regular classes, Nashville Swing Dance Foundation hosts workshops and events throughout the year, bringing in live bands, international instructors, and dancers from around the world. They also run swing outings and have a performance team. The organisation maintains an active social media presence and sells gift cards.
