About this studio
Plesni studio Step by Step has operated across Zagreb for nearly 30 years under the artistic direction of prof. Jasminke Zajec. The studio runs from six locations: Dubrava, Sesvete, Jelkovec, Maksimir, Gajnice and Stenjevec. Each year between 500 and 700 active members train here, ranging from age 4 to 28, with training schedules from two to ten hours per week.
The studio offers a comprehensive dance programme divided into three streams: preschool, school, and competitive. Classes cover rhythmics and dance, jazz dance, show dance, modern, and step. The studio is particularly known for reviving step dance in Croatia — a technique that had largely disappeared from the country. They have trained step dancers who have won gold and silver medals at world championships, and developed step dance pedagogs and choreographers who ensure the technique continues in Croatia.
Instructors are professional dance pedagogs and choreographers who have completed dance schools in Croatia and undertaken specialist training abroad, with many years of dance and teaching experience. Beyond competitive training, the studio emphasises giving members grounding in drama and music culture, and works on dance-music projects, dance stories and musicals.
