About this studio
SalsaHH has taught salsa in Hamburg since 2000, formally establishing the school in 2002. The studio is located at Hohenesch 13, just under 500 metres from Altona station — a five-minute walk from the U-Bahn.
The school teaches Salsa New York Style (on1 and on2), Salsa Cubana, Bachata, Rueda de Casino, Cha-Cha-Chá, and Pachanga. New courses start every few weeks, and you can move into higher levels after discussion and assessment. Classes are structured as fixed courses (8 weeks) followed by an open system where you attend as you wish.
The studio has three rooms (80 square metres, 80 square metres, and 90 square metres) with sprung floors, mirrored walls, ballet barres, central heating, sound systems, and separate changing rooms for men and women plus two showers. Maximum class size is 12 pairs, so you get proper attention. You can try a midweek class at intermediate level for €14, or contact the school about a trial at beginner or intermediate level.
Singles can join fixed courses if they arrange a partner in advance; the school helps match beginners. The school offers private lessons tailored to your needs — technique, choreography, wedding dances, or styling — and also runs workshops. They rent the rooms for courses, seminars, and events (not parties). Students, apprentices, and those in full-time education get 10% off fixed and crash courses plus flatrates.
Summer closure runs roughly two weeks (dates vary yearly). The school also closes on all public holidays and around Christmas.
What to expect
Your first visit
You'll arrive in a three-room space with sprung floors and mirrors, class size capped at 12 couples. Wear comfortable casual clothing and clean shoes with no rubber sole (bring a spare pair). The instructor will assess your level if you're new, then walk you through basic steps and rhythm. Beginner courses run 8 weeks; after that, you can drop into open classes whenever you like.
