About this studio

Salsannati began in 2011 with co-founder Frederic Angus partnering with Ivana Adler to develop Cincinnati's Latin dance scene. The studio is housed in the Clifton Cultural Arts Center at 3412 Clifton Ave. Classes run in 4-week cycles starting on the first week of each month, with instruction designed around movements you do every day so you'll be dancing quickly.

You can train in Salsa or Bachata at three levels. Level 1 covers fundamentals: basic steps, left and right turns, cross-body lead, and footwork combinations. Level 2 moves into travelling turns (inside and outside), hammerlocks, embraces, and checks. Level 3 challenges you with double turns, continuous wraps, and hand-tosses. No partner is needed to start—the studio pairs students as needed. Salsa and Bachata classes run Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30–8:00 pm or 8:00–9:30 pm depending on level, with optional Saturday practice from 1:00–3:00 pm.

The teaching team includes Frederic Angus (co-founder, trained by notable artists including Eddie Torres, Angel Martinez, and Rodrigo Cortazar), Alex Bowden Angus (classical dance background from the Royal Academy of Dance in London and Joffrey Ballet School; majored in Performance, Dance Education, and Choreography at Ohio State University), Heather Sommer (teaching since 2011, trained with Atrevidos and Phoenix Rising Latin & Ballroom, runs her own company DaytOn1 Salsa since 2020), Adam Blevins (dancing since March 2021), Galina Matveeva (trained in Kansas City and Toronto, joined in 2022), Sylvia Mattingly (teaching since 2023, trained in ballet, tap, and contemporary), Amanda Wagoner (dancing since 2007, performs On2), Elizabeth Godschalk (training since 2021, travels internationally to train), Angela Schierberg (dancing since 2019), and Julia Glenn (dancing since January 2019, manages social media and website).

Beyond group classes, Salsannati runs a Beginner Bootcamp—a two-day intensive taught by Frederic, held on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am–2:00 pm with refreshments provided, designed for complete beginners. Private lessons are available at 55 minutes for $85 per person or $99 per couple, teaching Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and ChaChaCha. Private group lessons pricing varies by group size, location, instructor, and level.

Salsannati Kids launched in mid-June, introducing children to Salsa, Bachata, Latin rhythm, musicality, movement, partner dancing, and cultural appreciation in age-appropriate classes. The program runs in 6-month sessions with two classes per age group per style, culminating in a showcase in December. Classes are held at Studio Z, 11256 Cornell Park Dr #504, Blue Ash, OH 45242.

The studio hosts regular events including SABOR Saturday workshops and social parties featuring guest artists. A July event showcased Nélida Tirado (Flamenco, New York) and Natalia Beans (Milwaukee-based instructor and choreographer) with workshops in body movement, footwork, intro to Flamenco, Salsa Caleña, and styling, followed by a social party from 9:00 pm–1:00 am with DJ Freddy. Wedding dance lessons and corporate team-building events are also offered. New students receive a $20 off coupon.
