About this studio

Saturn Dance teaches Ballroom and Latin dance classes across multiple locations in Cardiff, with a particular strength in beginner-friendly instruction and a strong community feel. Classes are available for children from age 3 upwards and for adults at all levels, from complete beginners through to intermediate and advanced.

Adult beginner classes run over 6 to 8 lessons and introduce three dances at a time—for example, cha cha cha, merengue and foxtrot in the first course. The studio teaches all five Latin dances (cha cha cha, rumba, samba, jive and paso doble), all five Ballroom dances (waltz, foxtrot, tango, quickstep and Viennese waltz), plus alternative styles including merengue, salsa, Charleston, American smooth and disco. You can bring a partner or come alone; classes are split between couples classes (where partners stay together) and individuals classes (where you partner with others in the group). After completing beginner courses over roughly a year, you'll know steps in ten different dances.

Children's classes are structured by age and experience. Rosettes (age 3–5) use games and simple routines to introduce coordination and timing. Stardance (age 6–9) adds more technique and styling while keeping energy high. Bronze (age 10–18) is sociable and fun with greater technical focus. Silver and Gold classes (age 10–18, by invite) are for those with previous experience, tailored to age and ability. All children's classes work towards IDTA exam awards.

The teaching team includes Darren, Lucilla, Helen, Jen and Steph, all noted in reviews for a relaxed, patient style and genuine enthusiasm for dance. Private tuition is available for wedding dance lessons, catch-up lessons, or exam and competition training. The studio runs regular social dances every 4–6 weeks, monthly practice sessions, and additional workshops and events. Multiple locations serve different areas: St Mary's Hall in Canton, Cyncoed Methodist Church, St Philip Evans Church Hall in Llanedeyrn, Pontprennau Community Church, Cathays Methodist Church, and Morganstown Village Hall (where children's classes are held).

What to expect

Your first visit

Classes are informal and welcoming, with an emphasis on enjoyment and having fun. Teachers explain steps clearly and there's no pressure or judgement if you struggle with a routine. You can expect to pick up a simple routine to music in your first 6–8 weeks, and to mix with friendly classmates in a relaxed atmosphere.
