About this studio

Starlite Dance Center teaches American Ballroom and Latin dancing to students in Reno. The studio is owned and instructed by Michael Pyles, who has over 30 years of professional dance experience. Michael competed professionally for eight years and won first place in the Reno "Dancing with the Stars" gala event in 2007, taking home the "mirror ball" trophy. He has owned Starlite Dance Center since 2007.

The teaching staff includes Charley Smith, who came to ballroom dancing as a way to increase her social activities and now teaches group and private classes. She has studied the DVIDA Syllabus with Diane Jarmolow, founder of the Ballroom Dance Teachers College. Ajay, another instructor, began dancing in 1993 and has studied with instructors across the SF Bay Area, New York, New Jersey, Miami, Havana Cuba, and Buenos Aires Argentina. He specializes in Latin dances including Argentine Tango, and has taught at studios in California, Reno, Tucson, and at the University of Arizona. Carole Musso manages the front office; she has danced since age 12 and participated in showcases at the studio.

Classes cover Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot, Swing, Tango, Bolero, Cha Cha, and Salsa. Ballroom dancing is presented as romantic and sensual; Latin dance is known for its sensual hip action and flair. The studio hosts social events and special events throughout the year.

The dance floor is sprung with no obstructions, making it suitable for learning and social dancing. Visitors consistently mention the welcoming atmosphere and the friendliness of staff. The studio is currently working to expand its services and welcomes new students.
