Swing Nights in Denver teaches classic American swing dances at The Pearl (formerly the Mercury Cafe), located at 2199 California Street. The organisation runs weekly classes at beginner and intermediate levels, regular team training, and frequent special events.
Tuesday nights offer progressive Lindy Hop instruction. Beginning Lindy Hop runs at 6:00 pm with a month-long series covering basic rhythms, footwork, and technique — by the end you'll have several classic moves ready for the social dance floor. Intermediate Lindy Hop follows at 7:00 pm with a monthly theme that ties all classes together. Tuesday classes cost $45 for four-week sessions or $15 drop-in.
Sunday nights feature 6-count Lindy, a more accessible entry point. Beginners take a 6:30–7:30 pm class covering the basics and a few moves to show off; at 8:00 pm a LIVE band takes over for dancing. Sunday classes cost $25 (class plus dance) or $22 (dance only), and no pre-registration is needed — just show up. Drop-ins, singles, couples, families, and groups are all welcome.
Swing Nights runs two competitive teams: the Mercury Retros and QuickSilvers, both rooted in the organisation's history at the Mercury Cafe. Teams offer deeper training in technique, choreography, and community building. The organisation also hires out instructors, performers, and dancers for weddings and corporate events.
Special events are a core part of the scene. Past events have included the Tiki Party (a decades-old Denver swing classic with limbo and hula contests), May the Fourth Swing (Star Wars–themed with Charleston contests and Cantina music), the Holiday Swing Party (with gift exchange and ugly sweater contests), the Great Gatsby Swing Night (1920s dress, Charleston contests, and photo booth), and the Harvest Moon Ball (formal dress and dancing under a mirror ball). Swing Nights is dedicated to providing safe spaces and asks all attendees to abide by its Code of Conduct.

Your first visit
Classes are relaxed and structured for learning. You'll rotate partners during lessons, though you can stick with one person if you prefer. Most dancers wear nice but casual clothing and flat-soled shoes; as you progress, you may invest in dance shoes with leather or suede soles. Spin a dress or skirt at home first to see how it moves; many dancers wear shorts underneath. No partner is required; many come solo and meet people.

Who teaches here
Ceth Stifel is a champion-level tap dancer and Lindy Hopper, master choreographer, and performer with the award-winning team 23 Skidoo since 1999, known for solo movement and rhythmic footwork. Dani Botello brings a background in massage therapy and Thai massage, has won multiple dance competition awards, danced with 23 Skidoo, and is a Denver favourite in Zouk, Lindy Hop, and West Coast Swing. Lark Mervine trained from childhood in jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and tap, and now teaches partnered swing, solo jazz, and hip-hop to dancers of all ages and levels. All instructors are available for private lessons.

Special events like the Tiki Party were originally started by Tiffiny Wine and 23 Skidoo over a decade ago and have become Denver classics.
