About this studio
Tablao Flamenco Albuquerque is a performance venue inside Hotel Albuquerque, operated as a special programming initiative of the National Institute of Flamenco, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. It exists through a partnership between Heritage Hotels & Resorts and the National Institute of Flamenco, focused on cultural preservation.
A tablao is a distinct performance tradition that originated in Spain as a key cultural institution for flamenco music, dance, and song. Unlike choreographed stage productions, performances here are traditionally improvised—an artistic conversation between dancers, singers, and musicians that unfolds in the moment. The venue is designed to foster intimate connection, allowing performers to share their artistry up close and giving audiences a front-row experience of flamenco's emotional power. The space itself was intentionally designed to be a tablao venue, with every detail from the stage wood to the lighting panels crafted for authenticity. The wooden stage is essential to flamenco: the material creates the ideal sound for zapateo (footwork, also called taconeo).
Tableao Flamenco Albuquerque features international guest dancers and musicians. Past performers have included dancer Mercedes Amaya "La Winy" and guitarist Santiago Aguilar from Mexico City, dancer Lucía "La Piñona" from Jimena de la Frontera, Spain, "La Popi" from Madrid, Spain, and singer Alicia Morales from Granada, Spain. The venue regularly presents members of Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, based in Albuquerque—the first US-based flamenco company to have ever been invited to a Spanish flamenco festival, Festival de Jerez.
Every evening combines live flamenco dancing, singing, and guitar performances with a four-course Spanish-inspired prix fixe dinner by Chef Ernesto Duran. The menu evolves seasonally, featuring fresh ingredients and new inspirations throughout the year, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. Most dishes are naturally gluten-free, and the venue accommodates allergy requests with advance notice. Dinner is included with Friday and Saturday evening shows only. The tablao is ideal for corporate groups, tours, and special events.
