About this studio
Tango with Colette teaches authentic Argentine tango as danced in Buenos Aires. Colette Hebert, the instructor, won the 2003 IDO United States Argentine Tango Championship with her former partner Richard Council and was a Tango Salon finalist at the 2005 World Championships in Buenos Aires. She studied in Buenos Aires under classical tango masters including Rodolfo and Maria Cieri and Mingo Pugliese, and is a Montreal native fluent in English, French, and Spanish. She has taught across North America for over twenty years.
The studio operates from San Diego Dance Theater. Students range from age 6 to 75 and learn tango in close embrace, working through intricate steps. Colette's reputation in the tango world is notable: it is rare for a "gringa" to earn the respect of the inner circle of Argentine-born tango masters, who consider her one of their own. She was featured in The Heart of Tango, a documentary by filmmaker Johnny Robinson exploring the soul of the dance.
Classes are offered as drop-in group sessions at any level, private lessons by appointment, and small group sessions for friends learning together. Colette also offers custom wedding choreography packages, allowing couples to have tango as their first dance.
