About this studio

The Dance Factory is an Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Approved Dance Centre based on Calder Street in Glasgow. For over thirty years, the studio has maintained a commitment to quality dance education and holds government-recognised professional teaching qualifications through its Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) programme, which is accredited by Ofqual.

The studio teaches children from three years of age onwards, alongside adult and professional classes. A strong track record shows former students have pursued successful careers in the performing arts worldwide as performers, educators and administrators. Alumni have gone on to study at leading institutions including Laine Theatre Arts, Bird College, Italia Conti, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, Performers College and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Lesley Wood leads the studio as Art Director and is a Fellow and Examiner of the ISTD, recognised as one of the most experienced and respected teachers in the country. She was an External Verifier with the Scottish Qualifications Authority and a faculty member of Dance For All, Edinburgh. Wood is also a choreographer who has worked with Imagine Productions, the BBC, Scottish Television and Scottish Opera, and has choreographed for theatrical productions including Footloose, We Will Rock You, Rent, Our House, Witches of Eastwick, Songs for a New World, Jekyll and Hyde and Children of Eden.

The teaching team includes Megan Woods, who trained at Dance For All Theatre School Edinburgh and completed her ISTD DDE teacher training at the Dance Factory after graduating in 2017. She holds a degree in marketing and entrepreneurship from the University of Strathclyde Business School and teaches and assists children and adult classes. Susan Haldane, the Product Manager, holds a BA (Honours) Open and Diploma in Dance Education (ISTD), plus a Diploma in Professional Stage Dance. She trained at Dance for All Theatre School Edinburgh and worked at Disneyland Paris before returning to Glasgow to teach. Haldane has been teaching dance to children and adults for over 16 years and teaches adult Tap and Ballet classes.

Susan Haldane holds ISTD qualifications in Dance Education and Professional Stage Dance, trained at Dance For All Theatre School, and has taught dance for over 16 years.
