The Dance Whisperer

The Dance Whisperer is a private ballroom dance studio in southwest Houston, located at 4710 Merwin Street near the Galleria, Highland Village, Upper Kirby, River Oaks, and West University areas. The studio specializes in teaching partner dances to adult couples on an exclusively private dance floor, meaning you learn alone with your instructor rather than in group classes.

You can take private lessons in waltz, tango, foxtrot, swing, salsa, samba, rumba, cha cha, Texas two step, and country western. All lessons are scheduled by appointment and tailored to your needs, pace, and personality. Each private lesson lasts 45 minutes. The studio welcomes beginners and takes care to build confidence and break down dance patterns into manageable steps. Rebecca, the owner and primary instructor, is known for patient, individualized instruction and for adapting her teaching approach to suit each couple's learning style.

The studio is particularly known for wedding dance choreography. The introductory special is $340 for five private 45-minute lessons, which works out to $68 per lesson—an exceptional deal according to the studio. After the introductory package, standard rates are $80 for a single lesson, $75 per lesson for 2–5 lessons, and $70 per lesson for 6–10 lessons. The studio recommends starting wedding dance lessons 7 to 9 weeks before your wedding day if you're taking the five-lesson package. Five lessons typically cover basic dance steps that can be repeated throughout your dance, how to lead and follow in dance frame, entrance and exit choreography, and a fun dip and kiss at the end. Longer or more complex pieces may require more lessons.

You can also organize self-led group classes with friends or family. Group classes cost $60 per couple and can include 2 to 4 couples. All lessons are 45 minutes each and scheduled by appointment. Payment is accepted in cash, check, or PayPal. Purchased lessons are valid for one year from the date of purchase. A 24-hour cancellation notice is required, or you forfeit the lesson.

You'll work one-on-one with Rebecca in a private dance studio on a private dance floor. Come in comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes; dance shoes are ideal but not required. Arrive on time to respect the privacy of couples scheduled before you.
