About this studio

The Dance Barre HTX is a community-centered studio in Houston offering professional instruction across ballroom, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary and commercial dance. Founded and owned by Chantell Preston—a healthcare executive, entrepreneur and certified mental performance coach—the studio prioritises building confidence, discipline and self-expression alongside technical excellence. Classes are available for children and adults, from absolute beginners through to competitive dancers. There's no requirement to have a partner or prior experience.

The teaching team combines world-class credentials with a commitment to technique and mentorship. Michelle Maldonado, the Artistic Director, holds a BFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University and won three NDA National Championships with the Orange Pride Dance Team. She is certified with Dance Educators of America and brings competitive dance experience to her teaching. Natia Kuprava and Viktor Shumylo—International Latin Ballroom Champions ranked 3rd in the World Dance for International Latin Rising Stars—lead ballroom instruction. Viktor is a three-time Ukrainian Champion and WDSF Worlds Top 3 finisher; Natia placed Top 10 at Blackpool and is a U.S. National Finalist. Kaylee Mims, a member of the University of Houston Cougar Dolls, teaches commercial dance and brings competitive drill team experience. Jasmine Herrera, also a BFA graduate from Sam Houston State University, specialises in jazz, contemporary and commercial dance and has performed at the Gaertner Performing Arts Center and festivals including the American College Dance Association, Mind The Gap and Barnstorm Dance Festival.

The studio offers group classes and private lessons based on instructor availability. Group classes cover ballroom styles (chacha, samba, jive), commercial styles (jazz, ballet, hip-hop, contemporary), adult-focused classes in commercial and ballroom including Latin Fusion, and youth enrolment. Private lessons are available for personalised technique development.

Beyond regular classes, the studio hosts wedding and special occasion choreography, creates custom routines for showcase performances and Pro/Am competitive events, and rents the space for private events. The studio provides a clean, spacious, bright and well-equipped environment with safe, comfortable conditions for dancers of all ages. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM CST, with inquiries typically answered within 24 hours.
