Towson Dance Studio

Founded in 1961, Towson Dance Studio is Maryland's oldest ballroom dance studio and has been Baltimore's go-to destination for individuals and couples learning to dance. The studio has recently moved into a larger space to accommodate growing demand, offering both traditional ballroom styles and modern dance concepts.

The teaching team includes internationally accomplished instructors. Darya Splendzer, originally from Minsk, Belarus, was introduced to ballroom dancing at age 8 and became a member of the national team of the Republic of Belarus, competing in World and European Championships for four consecutive years. She was named Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus in 2005 for her achievements and has performed onboard luxury cruise liners including Silver Sea, Oceania, Regent, Celebrity and MSC. Alexei Bazylev, also from Belarus, started dancing at age 9 and has won first prizes at International Ranking Competitions across Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland. He graduated with honours from the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts and was certified as a choreographer and ballroom dance teacher. Together, Darya and Alexei performed in more than 70 countries and produced the ballroom show "Ballroom Fever" onboard Celebrity Cruises.

Classes span multiple styles including Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa, Swing, Bachata, Cha Cha, Jive, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Samba and Viennese Waltz. Group classes are offered in 4-week courses at beginner and intermediate levels. Ballroom Beginner group classes teach Waltz and Swing in 55-minute sessions. Ballroom Beginner Social is designed for dancers who have completed Level 2 of Foxtrot/Rumba and Waltz/Swing. Salsa Beginner is offered as a 55-minute class with no prior experience needed. There is also a Ladies Formation class. Private lessons offer one-on-one coaching with personalised attention, flexible scheduling, and free use of the studio for practice when space is available. No contracts are required.

Beyond classes, the studio runs regular social events including Friday Social parties and Saturday night dance parties popular with singles and couples. The studio also offers wedding services specialising in first dances and father-daughter dances, corporate event lessons, dance fitness classes, performances and shows for events, studio rentals by the hour, and a competitive team. The studio has earned recognition as "Best Dance Studio in Maryland" by LUXlife Magazine.

Darya Splendzer and Alexei Bazylev, both from Belarus, bring extensive international competitive and performance experience. Darya was a four-time World and European Championships competitor and Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus; Alexei won multiple international ranking competitions and is a certified choreographer. Both have performed in over 70 countries and taught workshops globally.

No prior experience needed for beginner group classes; the studio philosophy is "Anybody can Dance" and classes focus on joy and confidence rather than pressure.
