About this studio
Waterfront Dance Studio has been established for over 25 years under the leadership of school principal Niki Forbes. The studio is built on the belief that dance can transform lives—not just through steps, but through the friendships, confidence and joy that come with learning together. You'll find a community that supports and celebrates each dancer, offering opportunities to learn, expand life skills and gain confidence in a safe, positive and encouraging environment.
Ballet, Jazz and Lyrical are at the heart of what they teach, with a focus on providing strong technical foundations. Classical Ballet and Commercial Jazz form the core of their training strategy at youth level, with the ballet programme kept up to date with the latest training techniques. Jazz training is non-syllabus, drawing from many sources to keep classes fresh. As dancers progress, they can add Acro and Lyrical training. All instructors are fully qualified, PVG checked and first aid trained.
Classes run for ages 2 and up. Tutu Tots (age 2) is an introductory class with adult participation. Pre-school Dance (Twinkles, ages 3+) teaches ballet basics through imagination and rhyme. Acro (ages 4–5) focuses on tumbling, balance and stretch. Junior classes (P1+) mix ballet and upbeat dance, with optional beginner Acro. Youth classes (P3+) follow either IDTA exams at junior level or the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus at senior level. Placement depends on ability and experience, not school year. Teen Dance (S1+) is a once-a-week class for those who want to dance for fun, fitness and socialising with no syllabus or exams.
Adult classes are offered by third-party providers: Ballet for Older Learners (RAD trained), Physio Led Pilates (mat-based, small groups, Monday to Friday), and Bootybarre (a fusion of dance, yoga and pilates techniques). The studio also runs summer drop-in classes on a pay-as-you-go basis and themed creative movement classes for different age groups.
