About this studio
West Valley Dance Company's Bascom ballroom studio opened in April 2015 as the company's first independent location, marking the start of a major expansion. The studio itself is described as "a beautifully designed space with Tiffany Blue accents, crystal chandeliers, and plush seating, making each dancer feel special."
The ballroom studio offers classes year-round for all ages, from two years old to adult. Group classes are structured to help you increase your skills while having fun and meeting other dancers with similar interests. The studio runs a weekly schedule across five days: Monday through Friday classes include Ballroom/Latin 1 and 2 at various age levels (5-7, 8-11, 10+, 12+), Adult Intro to Ballroom, Adult Ballroom/Latin 2, Mini Ballroom Team, Petite Ballroom Team, Junior Ballroom Team, and Adult Ballroom Team. Instructor approval is required for some team classes.
Private lessons tailor instruction to your goals and style of learning. Options include a 45-minute Intro package (2 lessons for $100), a Basic Package of 4 lessons to learn up to 3 different styles of ballroom dancing, an Intermediate Package of 5 lessons to learn patterns and techniques of one style, and a Competition Package of 10 lessons focused on styling, choreography, and performance.
The studio specialises in partnership dancing styles including Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha, Samba and more. Group classes focus on learning correct posture, movement, and footwork. The studio also offers wedding dance lessons: "For one of the most memorable days of your lives, we want to give you and your friends a beautiful memorable experience. Your first dance will be everything you always wanted."
West Valley Dance Company's broader philosophy emphasizes creating a nurturing environment where dancers of all ages can flourish physically, emotionally, and socially. The company traces its roots to Action Day Dance Academy, which began on April 5, 1976, in a small classroom on Moorpark Avenue in San Jose. From 1976 to 2009, more than 15,000 dancers passed through its studios. In 2009, the West Valley Dance Cats team was founded with 20 dancers. By 2015, it had evolved into West Valley Dance Company with teams for various age groups. The company has continued to expand, opening studios in Mountain View (2015+), Willow Glen (2016), and adding ballroom classes in 2021.
