Overview
Company of the Royal Danish Theatre, founded in 1748 at Kongens Nytorv. The theatre describes August Bournonville (1805-1879), ballet master in Copenhagen from 1830 to 1877, as "the calling card of The Royal Danish Ballet". The company holds and continues to perform the Bournonville repertoire including La Sylphide (1836), Napoli (1842), A Folk Tale (1854) and The Flower Festival in Genzano (1854), and states it possesses a greater number of ballets from the Romantic period than any other ballet company in the world.
