Ed Wubbe

Ed Wubbe is a Dutch choreographer and artistic director whose work has shaped contemporary ballet as a multidisciplinary art form. Since 1992, Wubbe has been central to Scapino Ballet Rotterdam's development into an experimental company, setting the artistic course for three decades and serving as artistic director through December 2024. Over his tenure, he created more than sixty ballets, including *Nico*, *Romeo & Julia*, *Songs for Drella*, *Pearl*, *TING!*, *Scala*, and *Oscar*—works that demonstrate his signature approach to large thematic productions. Wubbe's choreography is defined by its integration of live music, circus, and opera into dance theater, creating immersive environments where movement, sound, and spectacle combine as a unified artistic statement rather than separate elements. His contributions to the field were recognized with the Golden Swan in 2017 and his knighthood in the Order of the Netherlands Lion. In 2017, a 70-minute documentary titled *De Wereld van Wubbe* was broadcast on Dutch television, offering insight into his artistic practice. Nanine Linning succeeded Wubbe as artistic director at the end of 2024.
