About this studio
Casa Loma Ballroom is a 5,000 square foot venue built in 1927, located in the Cherokee Street/Antique Row Business District in South St. Louis. One of the largest floating dance floors in the Midwest, it has hosted dancers for over 90 years and remains a working ballroom for both lessons and social dancing.
The space seats up to 850 guests and features a comfortable air-conditioned facility. Every Friday night a 16 to 24-piece orchestra plays; Saturday nights feature oldies dancing. The ballroom also hosts touring acts and area bands, with programming that includes Ballroom, Rock 'n' Roll, and Imperial Swing Dancing.
Dance lessons are available in Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Latin, and Swing through instructor Luzcciana Martinez, who teaches select Fridays and Saturdays (check calendar to verify). Private lessons are also available through Christian Frommelt of the St. Louis Jitterbugs. Swing lessons run Saturdays 7:45 PM–8:30 PM, taught by instructors from area Swing clubs. Group lessons paired with open dancing are priced competitively; one review from 2006 noted a one-hour group lesson plus dancing for a small price.
The venue caters extensively to weddings and private events. Championship Catering, with over 50 years of experience and a history of catering for the St. Louis Cardinals and Rams, operates as the in-house caterer. Wedding packages include DJ, food, and bar. Five safely-lit parking lots with attendants serve the space. You can pre-order appetizers during public dances.
