About this studio
2ballerinas is an adult dance studio in Brisbane founded in 2007 by Michelle White and Rosetta Cook, both former Principal Ballerinas with The Queensland Ballet. The studio emerged from a simple conversation between the two dancers, who had returned to Brisbane—Michelle from London and Rosetta from Sydney—and noticed the absence of quality adult dance classes. Within hours of deciding to start, they had a business name, a website, and a local newspaper article; up to 100 people turned up on their first day.
The studio now employs over 20 teachers, all of them ex-principals and senior soloists who have worked extensively in major companies both in Australia and overseas. Classes are held at 81 Mina Parade, Newmarket, in air-conditioned studios. The location is a short walk from Newmarket rail station (Beenleigh or Ferny Grove lines) and accessible by bus route 325, Stop 16. The studio is situated at the rear left of the building; look for the red door.
2ballerinas offers classes in ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, body conditioning, and fitbarre. They run introduction courses (notably a popular 10-week Beginner Ballet course and a 5-week Introduction to Tap), ongoing drop-in classes throughout the year with no term breaks, and advanced Masterclasses led by ex-principal dancers. All regular classes operate on a casual, drop-in basis except for the structured courses. The studio also offers private classes, one-off workshops, and choreography services for weddings, fashion parades, flashmobs, and hens parties.
Online options include on-demand video courses: Ballet Tutorials with Natalie Hammond covering technical instruction on classical ballet, Introduction to Tap taught by Dale Pengelly (a music theatre performer and teacher), and Beginner Ballet with Larissa Fletcher. Free classes are also available online.
2ballerinas has grown without government funding, grants, or loans, sustained entirely by student support and community engagement. The studio welcomes people of all ages and all levels of experience—from those who have never danced to returning dancers and active professionals. Testimonials highlight the welcoming, judgment-free environment and the positive energy of instruction.

Studio history
2ballerinas was established in 2007 when Michelle White and Rosetta Cook, both former Principal Ballerinas of The Queensland Ballet, decided to create adult dance classes in Brisbane. After returning from London and Sydney respectively, they noticed a lack of suitable adult classes. Working with Adrian Green, they launched the business within hours of concept; a local newspaper article drew up to 100 people on their first day. The studio has grown entirely through community support, with no government funding, grants, or loans, and has evolved to include over 20 teachers and classes ranging from introduction level to advanced Masterclasses.
