Arthur Murray Dance Studios began in 1912 with founder Arthur Murray, an early pioneer of mail-order dance instruction and direct advertising. The franchise expanded to 72 studios by 1946 and became a household name through the "Arthur Murray Dance Party" television series (1950–1964), which reached millions of viewers. Arthur Murray was the first to recognise the growing popularity of Latin dances in America during the 1950s and held conventions in Cuba to train instructors in the latest styles. Arthur Murray instructors have also worked in major films including Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever and Scent of a Woman.
