Berlin Dance Institute is an international centre for contemporary dance education founded in 2016 by Wendy Taylor, Suleika Fichtner and Susi Neff. The institute is now directed by Susi Neff and Wendy Taylor, and operates as a vocational college recognised by the Berlin Senate (Angezeigte Ergänzungsschule nach § 102 Schulgesetz with BAföG).
The core programme is a 3-year contemporary dance education equivalent to European undergraduate level. Students collaborate with guest professionals and other artists while gaining real-world performance experience. BDI also offers an intensive programme for those seeking shorter, focused professional training or wishing to deepen technical and artistic skills. The institute's teaching approach combines rigorous training with curricular and extracurricular opportunities, emphasising open, honest and caring learning.
The faculty includes professional dance artists and lecturers across contemporary, ballet, jazz, street dance, choreography, repertoire and improvisation. Staff cover practical teaching (Amr Karkout, Jessica Gaynor, Kathinka Sonneborn, Luana Rossetti, Manuel Meza, Milana Kraskina, Miriam Diaz Gordo, Sara Müller Troconis, Sara Reddig, Susi Neff, Sonia Rodriguez, Victoria Kassebohm, Wendy Taylor) and theoretical areas including injury prevention and health (Anna Athanasiou, Elitsa Zafirova). Guest instructors regularly include Adonis Vais, Blenard Azizaj, Chaim Gebber, Joseph Tmim, Paul White and Sagi Gross.
BDI runs open classes for both adults and children, with separate schedules and fee structures. The institute also offers high-quality studio rentals with 5 spacious, column-free studios ranging from 80 to 180 square metres, suitable for rehearsals, workshops, classes and creative projects. The location is south of Südkreuz, accessible via S-Bahn Südkreuz and buses M46 and 106, with the studio on the first floor.
The institute maintains an anti-discrimination clause and welcomes international students, providing support information for life and study in Berlin. BDI operates Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 10:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
