About this studio

Dance Dynamique Academy is a family-run dance school in Hillsborough, Sheffield, founded in March 2011 by Director Fiona Firth, an IDTA fellow. The school has grown from 42 students and 6 classes to around 300 pupils across 50 classes, running six days a week. In 2023, the academy moved into its own purpose-built studio building on Hawksley Ave.

The school teaches a range of styles within the Theatre Branch of the IDTA: ballet, tap, jazz, acro, musical theatre, street dance and theatre craft. Classes are organised by age group: pre-school (18 months to 5 years), juvenile (Reception to Year 2), junior (Year 3 to Year 6), intermediate and senior (Year 7 onwards), and adult. The school has a 100% pass rate in IDTA exams, which are taken several times a year.

Fiona trained professionally at Phil Whinston's Theatre Works in Blackpool and has achieved 97% and 96% in her most recent teaching exams. She leads a teaching team that includes three former students who are now qualified dance teachers: Miss Morgan (who gained a First Class degree as a Biomedical Scientist before returning to DDA), Miss Maddie (who specialises in tap and holds an CIMPSA Exercise Instructor qualification), and Miss Morgan (who was Secretary and Choreographer for her university dance society). Dan, who joined in 2023 after 15 years leading performing arts in secondary education, brings musical direction and production experience; he holds a bachelor's degree in Music and achieved QTS with 'Outstanding' status.

The school runs annual full productions and showcases, plus performance opportunities at local community events. Half-term and summer camps are available. Birthday parties can be booked through the parent portal, which also handles uniform orders and access to term dates and school communications. The academy operates on a six-term year, with Term 4 including the annual show weekend in April.
