About this studio
Dance Lakewood is a family-focused dance school offering classes in ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, acro dance, and tap. The studio serves children from age 3 through adults aged 21 and up, with a curriculum designed to build technique, confidence, and a love of dance.
The school year runs from September 21 through June 13. For young children, Intro to Ballet classes (ages 3–4) cover basic ballet terminology, barre technique, music counting, and floor work, with an emphasis on social behaviour and self-confidence. Combo classes for ages 5–6 alternate weekly between ballet and tap, introducing both styles systematically. As students progress, they move into Beginning Ballet (ages 7+) and advance through Intermediate and Advanced levels, all by placement. Pointe training is available for students at Intermediate Ballet 2 level and above who are recommended by their teacher.
Adult ballet classes run at four levels: Beginning Adult Ballet 1 for those entirely new to dance or returning after childhood, Beginning Adult Ballet 2 for students with at least one year of adult class experience, Intermediate Adult Ballet for those comfortable with general ballet technique, and Advanced Adult Ballet for proficient dancers seeking continued training.
Classes meet throughout the week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with multiple time slots to accommodate different schedules. The studio is led by co-owner and instructor Mary Laughery, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance Management and Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace University and trained at the School of Cleveland Ballet. She studied with Margaret Holden of Lakewood Dance Academy and brings expertise in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, acrobatics, lyrical, and modern dance.
Each school year concludes with an all-studio Showcase held at Lakewood Civic Auditorium on June 13th. Students perform in their class uniforms. The studio maintains clear uniform policies and welcomes anyone interested in dance, from complete beginners to experienced dancers seeking advanced training.
